2.5 Lakh Village Panchayats To Get Broadband Access By 2018

Telecom secretary J S Deepak today said Centre is planing to get broadband network across 2.5 lakh village panchayats in the country by 2018.  all panchayats will have an ecosystem that will further boost the connectivity and bridge the digital divide in the country and will be connected through fibre optic network by 2018.

The Telecom Secretary highlighted three areas that needed focus to bridge this divide — connectivity, language and digital illiteracy besides The state owned telecommunications Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has said that Laying fibre network require huge amount of physical manpower. A pilot has been set up to test broadband connectivity to village panchayats using Wi-Fi network, 6km of wireless network has been set up using Wi Fi towers in three villages in Bhiwadi, namely Karenda, Phalsa and Bahadri.

Brining and connecting rural areas with urban cities in India will provide more opportunities.
